We’re always on the lookout for new talent: doctors who love to teach and are passionate about communication skills, people, and mental health issues.

In keeping with the spirit of Extreme Psych, we consider applications from doctors of all specialities. We are also happy to accept applications from non-psychiatrists with appropriate skills and experience, and if necessary would be able to provide additional teaching and support to ensure that psych knowledge is up to date.

Some teaching experience is helpful, though the team includes doctors with many teaching hours under their belts, who would be keen to help you improve your own teaching as the year went on.

You need to be able to commit to at least 6 of 8 sessions each term for a minimum period of an academic year. This may mean that you need to swap oncalls or work flexibly with colleagues to ensure you can attend.

We like Extreme Psychiatrists to get to sessions by 5.15pm (ideally, 5pm), in order to meet the students and answer any questions before the lecture. You need to be able to stay until 7.45pm, to provide and receive team feedback. On alternate weeks, the debrief happens at a local coffee shop, and you may wish to stay for cake and chats.

As well as facilitating group work, you’ll mentor Actors and Peer Facilitators, and can help with the running of the course (very useful in your ARCP…).
